In the US, it seems the senior more experienced people come in early while the newbies and young ones wander in about a minute or two before their shift starts, that is if they even come in on time and they always have excuses.

Man I've been wanting to leave the US for some time due to the work hours getting ridiculous, but after watching these "Day in the life of" these Japanese workers, I'm so much more grateful for where I am and what I have. Still gonna try to move to Norway though

Modern day slavery. There's more to life than money.

I respect the Japanese but I think they work their employees way way way too hard. If you work 30 to 40 years there’s no way one can keep up that work schedule. I tend to think a lot of people in Japan get burned out.

"true japanese salaryman spirit"… considering all the overtime, he's somewhat a company slave from a certain perspective

this guy wakes up at 7 am and is at home at 7 pm, im guessing this is a pretty GOOD day for him since i can imagine on other days he comes home at 8 or 9 pm. My fucking god i wish i could find it so cool and easy but japan really is disturbingly overworking everyone. even after work he has stuff to do, and his boss was not japanese, so im guessing other bosses who are actually japanese have an even worse mindset… as much as u play the happy music, i can really imagine that guy to be absolutely depressed in a few years… i really would love to live in japan but seeing people talking about the working hours and the work mentality, it would really be not a fun place to live in.

At least he gets out and about, and doesn't have to sit around at his desk the entire time. Imagine this video but instead of Makoto going around Tokyo, he just sits at his desk doing work instead. That would be so much worse. However, the fact that he's seemingly working 8-9 everyday, sounds nightmarish and I don't envy that in the slightest.

Jeez, I actually aged watching this.
That makoto is a machine.
Fair play to him.
But when he said he wanted to spend his whole career doing that, I felt immense sadness, I have been lucky enough to have travelled all over the world, and makoto's outlook is just this every day, I hope he is happy and fulfilled……

cant imagine living like this and working in black pants when it is hot. i honestly started cringing seeing this guy put gel in his hair and then just walk around exchanging cards for his work day almost not doing anything productive. And it must be weird to work for a white person in japan lol. lets to back to a nationalistic imperial japan

This 1:35 should be an unwritten rule everywhere around the world. So annoying when inconsiderate people block the escalator and you cant get through.

This video is very interesting! If I compare this to my office work (Manila). If even I just visit our clients personally, they might think that there's a problem cause most if not all of our communications are done via email or video conferences. Also the coffee part, I was surprised cause I thought that would be the only thing that would be similar with mine. Here it's either the Intern, the Office Lady or you yourself (if you have a specific prefence or just use instant ones) who brews the coffee.
