SUPPORT ME ON PATREON: (spoiler warning for GTA 4 & Brat movies) Grand Theft Auto IV is arguably the greatest GTA game ever, loved by fans for its story. In this video, I provide an in-depth look on how Russian movies, such as “Брат”, “Брат 2” and “Behind Enemy Lines” served as inspiration for Rockstar to create the story of Niko Bellic. Hey dudes, this is my first real attempt at a "video essay" type of content and it took me a ton of research and effort. I hope u like and if u do smash like so I'll do more interesting ones about Russia or something
EDIT: A bunch of comments here are saying “Niko is Serbian though, not Russian”. I’ve never said Niko was Russian lmao, I thought him being Serbian isn’t even worth mentioning because everybody knows it. Still, I said that he’s a Bosnian War veteran, which I think makes it pretty obvious that he isn’t Russian. I talked about the 90s in Russia to bring context to the movies, not to imply that it has something to do with Niko
This was great! Loved GTA IV
8:09 how did you get a deagle so early on in the game
Imagine if Mashkov took the role as Niko.
gta 4 inspired by Brat 2
And i hate bad stuff
I hate 2019 becasue it was an unluckiest year
I think Niko Vellic was supposed to be not full Russian just Slavic
They were 100% inspired by Russian movies, Rockstar did this a lot. Max Payne 3 was pretty much a mixture of Man on Fire and Brazilian movies such as City of God. It's one of the reasons why I prefered GTAV's story mode, it was generally more fun and unique if simple. The story really fits GTA and it's American satire, it really feels like THE Grand Theft Auto game for better or for worse. IV's story felt generic after many Serbian and Russian movies I watched. However I still have a soft spot for GTA IV's story and atmosphere and Vladivostok FM is a big part of that.
I like how the rockstar made gta 4 , all this effects , realistic physics , realistic ragdolls , sounds of shooting , I like this all , because when you play , thats feels like a damn movie ..
Чувак ,я по началу даже не понял что ты русский , очень хорошо разговариваешь на английском .
hey you mentioned me
4:10 Blood Type, Grupa Krovi, Viktor Coj was a gift to this world
I think if he took the voice role he could be more internationaly know
i fucking loved when you used gruppa krovi by kino as backround music
клёво когда на англиском говорят о твоём любимом фильме кстати я русский
oooooh i hate lektors haha
To be fair to the actor that turned down the Niko role – they probably didn't tell him what game he'd be working on – Rockstar do that to avoid leaks etc. For instance, the actor for Arthur for RDR2 wasn't told what game he was doing the motion capture + voice acting of until a few weeks of shooting.
I remember my 10 year old self watching Behind Enemy Lines, and thinking "Sasha" was a legend! Vladimir played the part perfectly!
Call me crazy but I don't think Vlad 'took the L' by not voicing Niko. Don't get me wrong – GTA4 is one of my favorite games of all time: I played it to death before Steam Achievements were even a thing. But I still think that a man should not be shamed or ridiculed for passing up an opportunity because he was wary of the obligations that might come with it… Sometimes, the money really isn't worth the change in lifestyle that it brings.
Vlad might have been just the kind of guy who was perceptive enough to see the kind of world that would exist if he decided to voice Niko. There's nothing wrong with deciding that you'd prefer a simpler, more modest life.
Make a video ranking your favorite Russian movies!
Hugs from Brazil
Damn, I've been wanting to play thru this… again
В чем сила,брат? Правильно…в картошке.))

Inspared by russian movies, Main charecter and his cousin Roman are nor russians, their surnames are not BeliK but BeliĆ, typical Serbian surname. Just a fact.
